Participatory action and development: a study in Chimborazo, Ecuador

This article aims to present a methodological approach to investigate poverty and underdevelopment based on what was observed in Chimborazo-Ecuador. Focus, argues that liberal economist arguments are not enough to understand development; this manuscript is based on community capital and on the efficient evolution of transformations of a subject that is defined as a collective by being subjected to a map of relationships. For the methodology, the Participatory Action Research (IAP) is used, accompanied by two instruments: Relationship Map and for discourse analysis the Atlas Ti. To this, the configuration of Research Groups in the territory is added. The results invite us to think about the socioeconomic and political construction from the angle of the denial that the subject makes of the present, of the structure of relationships and the convergence between community capitals and public policies. The originality/value lies in the fact that a solid link is made between development and the capacity for change of its material base.
